American Folk Art Heart Statue of Liberty & American Flag painted wood Va artist
This heart shaped American folk art painting features the American flag and the head of the Statue of Liberty. This is the perfect Valentine’s gift for the patriotic heart collector! It was painted in Stafford, Virginia in 2002 by Lydia Bosse. It has been in our folk art collection since 2007.
It is signed and dated by the artist along the right edge of the heart (on the right edge of the lowest red stripe of the flag) ------ Lydia 2002. The artist strung a leather cord (the two knots are in the front) through two holes at the top of the heart. So you can hang it from the leather cord (or replace it with something else). The artist’s original paper label (Lydia’s Folk Art Crafts) is still attached by a string to the leather cord.
The heart is solid pine that is over ¾” thick. At its widest and tallest it is about 13 1/8” x 10 ¾”.
This painted wood folk art is in good used / pre-owned condition. There are some marks / rubs / scratches, etc. from handling. Lady Liberty’s face is not perfectly smooth since there is a knot in the pine board in the area between her nose and her right eye. The sides / edges of the heart shaped wood are painted, but the back is not painted.
The quality of this folk artist’s painting is exceptional. This is in an entirely different league than the patriotic handpainted wood crafts that are typically available at arts and crafts shows. We value and collect genuine and well done art and fine crafts. Even though it is sometimes possible to get cheaper imported copies --- we think one should only buy the real deal! The imported copies (usually done without the artist’s permission) of American artists’ work can be found in most department, gift and discount stores. Those cheap copies have no value in terms of the art and collectibles market, and they certainly do not permit you to enjoy a real work of art.
So, if you are a heart / flag / Statue of Liberty collector who likes to look at, handle and own originals, consider adding this wonderful piece of 20th century American folk art to your collection.
