Jackie Ludtke Original American Landscape Painting - birch trees, water, full moon, stars
Original Small Landscape Painting by Michigan artist Jackie Ludtke
In this small landscape painting by American artist Jackie Ludtke, a pair of birch trees frames a stream flowing towards the horizon and a full moon in a star filled sky. At first, this peaceful and symmetrical scene (probably in the artist’s native Michigan) appears to be a bright daytime view. But on closer inspection, you realize it is a brightly illuminated night view with a full moon reflected (down the center of the painting) in the water. The deep blue night sky is filled with stars.
The landscape is approximately 2 1/2” x 2”. This small painting on paper is double matted. The artist has painted the inner mat continuing the star filled deep blue sky; so a slim rectangle of bright and twinkling stars (and planets ?) frames the small landscape in the center.
The window of the outer mat is about 5” x 3 1/2”. It is in a wood frame (8 3/4” x 6 3/4”) under glass; the window of the frame is 6 1/2” x 4 1/2”. The painting is in excellent condition since it is under protective glass, but the plain wood frame has some dings, scrapes and marks from years of handling.
In most of the photographs, there is interference from reflections and glare due to the protective glass. But since it is easy to open up the backing of the frame, we could photograph the matted painting out of the frame.
It has a zigzag hook on the back for hanging. It would also be great to display it on a small picture easel on a table or shelf.
