Original 20th c. American Fruit Still Life Painting

-- signed Nancy Todd Roberts ( Kansas artist )

-- Classical Realism

The esteemed Kansas artist Nancy Todd Roberts is a master of classical realism, painting in the style and technique of the Old Masters.  In this wonderful 20th century American oil on canvas, she shows her absolute mastery of chiaroscuro.  The vibrant and rich colors of the fruit (apples, plums, etc. – a pomegranate ? at the left) emerge from the shadows of the background.  The classic Paul Revere bowl (sterling / silverplate / pewter ??) at the center (on a dark wood table / surface) of the scene provides a silvery and metallic mirror-like counterpoint to the display of plump and luscious fruit.  Roberts’ phenomenal talent and mastery is especially evident in her handling of the reflections on the bowl.

The canvas (on a wood stretcher), measured on the back, is 8” x 10”.  The frame is just over 12” x 14”.  The frame “window” is about 7 ½” x 9 ½”.  This original painting was custom framed by the previous owner from whom we purchased it years ago.  The frame has an antiqued and dark Old World look.  The wide outer moulding has an inner gilt liner --- which provides a classic and beautiful “window” to this iconic still life.  For aficionados of the history of still life painting, this remarkable painting offers an opportunity to own an American masterpiece.

It is signed Nancy Todd Roberts at the lower right.

The painting is in very good condition.  The frame was made to have an old / antique look.  The molding has some imperfections; some might be from when it was made and some might be from handling.  On the antiqued gold inner liner there are some little rubs and chips (note the one at the lower left).

This is a splendid original by a living American woman artist.  This will be a spectacular addition to any collection of exceptional original art.

[There is a wire on the back for hanging.  On the back, the frame moulding and the canvas’ wood stretcher are covered with brown paper.]
