Vintage Signed Watercolor Painting “Laundry is for the birds” clothesline with quilt & socks

  • 6500

This small original American watercolor painting depicts laundry day with a quilt and socks hanging on a clothesline, a bird’s nest above it and a full laundry basket sitting in the grass below the quilt.

This original is mixed media / collage.  The clothesline and the words above it (“Laundry is for … the birds.”) are done  in black ink.  The quilt is not painted; it is actually a nine panel fabric quilt hung with two painted wood clothespins.  On each side of the quilt there is a painted sock hung with a painted clothespin.

The artist signed it with three initials in the grass to the right of the basket.  The initials look like JHL or GHL.

This amusing commentary on laundry day is not dated. It is most likely from the 1980s or 1990s.

It is framed with glass.  It has a dark brown paper backing and a metal zigzag hook for hanging.

Please excuse the interference from reflections and glare in the photos; we took photos at a variety of angles to try to get better views through the glass. )

The wood frame is 6 1/4“ x 8 1/8” x 3/4”.  The frame window is 4 3/4” x 6 5/8“.

The price includes shipping to U.S. customers.
