We have always liked interesting old and "worn" beautiful hand made Oriental rugs ---- and this is an especially intricate one.  As you can see from the photos, a past owner had it hand stitched to a thick brown wool backing to protect / preserve it (and it looks like this was done many years ago).  There are spots and areas (especially in the four center "panels") where the weaving is worn and thread bare (and there is a small square "hole").  Please examine the photos very thoroughly and carefully (and we can send you additional photos upon request).

When we selected photos from all of those we had taken, we tried to provide a survey of the varied and beautiful designs and colors.  But, we also tried to concentrate on the AS IS issues so that you will know that this exceptionally beautiful hand woven rug has the "character" developed over many years of use and admiration.

This would be a phenomenal wall hanging --- hung either horizontally or vertically.  It is approximately 10' x under 4' 7".  It can be used on the floor, but because of the wear (and the hope that this exceptionally beautiful work of art will be preserved for many more years), you should not use it in a very high traffic area.  If you like "layering" rugs, you could always use this on the floor and protect the fragile center panels with a coordinating long runner down the center.

All of the art work and collectibles being sold by Adams-Byrd have been collected and selected one at a time by the proprietor, an art historian with many years of training and experience in university art history departments, museums, galleries and historic sites both in the U.S. and abroad.  Our small family business has been based in the Washington, D.C. area for many years.  Our online presence has now replaced our brick & mortar locations.
